Lift facilities and future regrets
In our House, the journey toward high-quality hospitality and a different kind of tourism—closer to people and the environment, what is now known as “sustainable tourism”—began twenty years ago. Back then, Michil Costa’s voice was still a lone one. Few people were talking about the common good, social and environmental responsibility, or a gentler tourism that respects its surroundings.
Today, fortunately, things have changed. There is growing awareness that the green economy, and especially the impact economy—an economy that looks beyond mere profit maximization and commits to a broader impact for the common good—are essential approaches for creating a sustainable future. In 2024, Hotel La Perla worked toward obtaining certification from the GSTC—Global Sustainable Tourism Council—the most prestigious global sustainability certification in the tourism sector.
Alta Badia, as a destination, is also GSTC-certified, with the aim of promoting more conscious tourism in the Dolomites. Under the guidance of sustainability manager Elide Mussner, our director Nicolò Bagna and his team have tackled numerous challenges over the past months. Several improvements were needed in areas such as facility accessibility, resource monitoring, transparent communication, and sustainable procurement.
In December, the certification body Vireo officially awarded the GSTC certification to Hotel La Perla. The certification is valid for two years, with annual audits to verify ongoing efforts to improve the achieved results. After two years, the certification process must be repeated from scratch.
